WINE WEDNESDAY: Dark Horse Rose
I HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED MY MARISSA A ROSS AND I AM BRINGING BACK WINE WEDNESDAY BECAUSE I CAN.
Yes. I am officially bringing back Wine Wednesday reviews on Honestly Though. I would love to say that it’s because you’ve all begged me to bring it back, but that’s not the case (whomp, whomp).
Vivino keeps deleting my accounts and I can’t remember which wines I’ve drank. (Vivino, if you’re reading this, please find my deleted account with over 200 tracked wines).
I’m adding a section with quotes from Marissa A. Ross because I’ve read her book three times and I will never not be obsessed with her approach to wine and drinking.
Honestly, though, let’s drink.
BOTTLE: Dark Horse Rose | 2016
What is it: 13% ABV
Grapes: BLEND! 48% Grenache, 16% Barbera, 13% Pinot Gris, 12% Tempranillo, 11% Other Select Varieties
Price Range: $19 (Pro-tip: 2017 is ~$9)
Thoughts: This is what Maxim and I call “utility wine.” It’s not too expensive, it’s common, and it’s totally chug-able (not that we chug wine, Mom). Plus, it’s refreshingly dry. I’m one of those obnoxious “I hate whites because they’re too sweet” people. The same goes for rose. But this one passes the test. Great for day drinking. Goes well with veggies, hummus and vegan mac n’ cheese. Freeze for frose, blend in vodka, and thank me later.
Marissa A. Ross-ism: “This isn't some shit you should be willy-nilly pulling out of a relative's cellar. It is (generally) made to be consumed within two years of production, so check the year.”
She also said in this same article that Rosé is the Drake of all wine, further cementing herself as my spirit animal.
OVERALL RATING: 6/10. Perfect for casual drinking on rooftops or when you don’t want to spend a lot on a good rosé.
Enjoy your Wine Wednesday!
